ABOUT school of thought

Dear Reader,

School of Thought is a blog dedicated to honest, candid, and sometimes controversial conversations about what matters most in education.  This is a blog that seeks to unite practice with theory. As classroom practitioners, teachers are the experts in the field. They often have an instinctual sense of the best practices that yield results and can quickly sniff out the weaker strategies that are only good in a textbook.  Teachers struggle with common problems- kids that give up too easily, kids that struggle despite intense remediation, a curriculum that is written and delivered solely for the common core. Educational researchers, however, have conducted the studies that address these issues and have produced findings that could be truly beneficial to our kids.
School of Thought is the spot where practice and research come together.

Each post will highlight a trend, an observation, a strategy, or a common challenge that educators currently face. Readers are invited to weigh in with their own thoughts and experiences on the topic. This blog seeks the opinions of teachers grades K-12 and the educational researchers that are conducting groundbreaking studies in the education field.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope that School of Thought gives you something to think about!

Sincerely,
Nancy Hobbs
